Bottom line: booking a Seoul hair salon as a foreigner is easy in 2026: perms and colour are priced by hair length and stylist rank on public menus, Naver Booking now accepts a foreign passport instead of a Korean phone number, and nobody expects a tip.

Seoul Hair Salon: The Short Answer
- Perms and colour are priced by hair length: JUNO Hair Myeongdong Street Branch lists women’s perms at 180,000, 230,000 and 280,000 won for short, medium and long hair on Naver.
- Stylist rank changes the cut price most: 65,000 won with the head director (대표원장), 45,000 won with a designer.
- Length surcharges are printed on the menu: Soonsiki Hair Hongdae adds 20,000 to 60,000 won.
- Since 4 June 2026, NAVER Passport Verification lets visitors book on Naver without a Korean mobile number.
- Creatrip takes a small online deposit; you pay the rest at the salon. Free cancellation usually ends 3 days before.
- Allow 1 to 1.5 hours for a cut and 4 to 6 hours for perm plus colour.
- Tipping is not required or expected in Korea, says the Korea Tourism Organization.

What this guide covers
What a Seoul Hair Salon Visit Is Actually Like
A Seoul hair salon differs from most salons back home in two ways. The menu is public: chains like JUNO Hair publish every price on Naver, Korea’s main map and booking app. And that price is a starting point: JUNO’s Creatrip and Naver pages both say length, damage and the assigned designer can add to it after a consultation.
Every price below comes from a salon or booking page as of 6 October 2026. Treat them as dated examples, not a citywide rate card.
1. Pick Your Korean Service: Perms, Cuts, Colour and Scalp Care
Women’s perms: C-curl, S-curl and hippie perm
A cold perm (일반펌, “basic perm”) uses lotion and rods; a heat perm (셋팅펌 “setting” or 디지털펌 “digital”) uses heated rods for the soft, glossy curl most visitors want. Soonsiki’s listed perm prices are for cold perms, with heat perms quoted on site.
Style names to know: C-curl (C컬), ends turned under in a soft C; S-curl (S컬), a looser wave; and the hippie perm (히피펌), tight all-over curls. JUNO Myeongdong even sells a bangs-only C-curl perm from 35,000 won. Not every Seoul hair salon lists the hippie perm by name, so bring a photo.

Men’s two-block cut and down perm
The two-block cut (투블럭), short sides with length on top, is booked as an ordinary men’s cut. The add-on that makes it sit right is the down perm (다운펌), which flattens the sides. JUNO Myeongdong prices it by area: 30,000 won for the sides, 50,000 won with the back, 70,000 won for the whole head. A full men’s perm is 150,000 won with a designer.

Colour and bleach
Colour also scales with length. JUNO Myeongdong lists women’s colour at 200,000, 220,000 and 240,000 won for short, medium and long hair, plus 50,000 won for damaged medium hair. Men’s colour is 150,000 won and bleach runs 200,000 to 260,000 won. Balayage at Soonsiki carries up to 110,000 won extra for extra-long hair.
Scalp care and the Korean head spa
Scalp care (두피 클리닉), sold to visitors as a “head spa”, is its own menu. JUNO’s 18-step scalp clinics cost 220,000 won and take about 90 minutes; Soonsiki lists a head spa at 160,000 won, or 100,000 won via Creatrip. Our Korean head spa guide compares standalone head spas, and for a full bathhouse see our jjimjilbang etiquette guide.
2. How Seoul Hair Salon Pricing Works: Stylist Rank and Length
원장, 실장, 디자이너: what the titles mean
Every Seoul hair salon on Naver lists stylists by rank. At JUNO Myeongdong Street the ladder runs 대표원장 (head director), 부원장 (deputy director), 수석실장 (chief senior stylist, from 실장 siljang) and 디자이너 (designer). The director’s cut is 65,000 won; designers and chief senior stylists charge 45,000 won.
Most perm and colour prices on that branch are identical across ranks; the gap shows in the cut and a few items, such as a men’s perm at 165,000 won with the director versus 150,000 won with a designer. Some salons will not let you choose: Soonsiki’s Creatrip page says designers cannot be assigned in advance.

Length surcharges
Naver menus split women’s perms and colour into short (jawline), medium (collarbone) and long (chest). Platform listings add a line item instead: Soonsiki charges 20,000, 40,000 or 60,000 won more for medium, long or extra-long hair, and states all prices assume short hair.

The key prices at a glance
| Service | Example price (6 Oct 2026) | What changes it |
|---|---|---|
| Women’s cut | 45,000 won designer, 65,000 won director (JUNO Myeongdong); 33,000 won (Soonsiki Hongdae) | Stylist rank |
| Women’s perm | 180,000 / 230,000 / 280,000 won short / medium / long (JUNO) | Length, hair condition |
| Perm + cut | 144,000 won via Creatrip (Soonsiki cold perm) | +20,000 to 60,000 won by length |
| Men’s down perm | 30,000 / 50,000 / 70,000 won (JUNO) | Area permed |
| Women’s colour | 200,000 / 220,000 / 240,000 won (JUNO) | Length, damage |
| Hair treatment | 150,000 to 250,000 won (JUNO); 96,000 won via Creatrip (Soonsiki) | Steps, product line |
| Gel nail art | From 15,000 won hands (Pro Beauty Myeongdong) | Design, gel removal |
3. Choose an English-Friendly Seoul Hair Salon Area
Four areas dominate the salons tagged “English Available” in Creatrip’s hair salon category:
- Myeongdong: JUNO Hair (several branches), LEEKAJA Hair and ECO JARDIN. See Myeongdong is not Seoul for other bases.
- Hongdae: Soonsiki Hair, The Day’s Hair and colour specialist #CCONTE.
- Gangnam, Apgujeong and Cheongdam: celebrity salons such as HOSU DOSAN, at higher prices.
- Seongsu: newer salons such as ONYAD HAIR, FUSS and late-opening ARGYOL.

⭐ 4.7/5 from 612 KKday reviews · English and Japanese listed · from KRW 23,900 · free cancellation 2 days before (as of Oct 2026)
“English available” usually means some staff, not every stylist. JUNO says staff give basic support in English, Japanese and Chinese and use translation tools for detail.
4. How to Book a Seoul Hair Salon: Naver vs English Platforms
Naver Booking with a foreign passport
Naver gives you the full menu and a choice of stylist, but it used to need a Korean mobile number. On 9 June 2026 NAVER announced Passport Verification, live since 4 June, so foreign users can book and pay through NAVER Map without one. NAVER’s help page says you photograph your original passport in the app and complete a face check; the passport must be foreign-issued, valid, unused on another Naver ID and match your account’s name and birth date.

Two catches: salon menus on Naver are in Korean, though the app has an English interface (see our Naver Map in English guide); and JUNO’s 10,000 won Naver deposit is kept if you change the time or arrive late without calling.
English booking platforms
To book a Seoul hair salon in English, Creatrip is the most complete option. At JUNO Myeongdong you pay 3.73 USD online for a cut or 14.92 USD for colour or perm, then the balance at the salon, with 10% off the on-site bill. Cancellation is free until 3 days before; late arrivals over 10 to 15 minutes are cancelled.
You can book JUNO Hair Myeongdong Street Branch on Creatrip (5.0 from 14,554 reviews, as of October 2026) or Soonsiki Hair Hongdae Flagship (4.9 from 7,948 reviews; closed Monday and Tuesday). KKday’s prepaid HOSU DOSAN Cheongdam voucher (linked in the guide box above) is rated 4.7 from 612 reviews and starts from KRW 23,900 (as of October 2026). JUNO asks for 5 hours’ notice; Soonsiki asks for 2 days.

5. What to Bring and How Long to Allow
- Reference photos of the front, side and back of the style you want. They remove most of the language problem.
- Your colour history. Soonsiki warns perms may not be possible on bleached hair.
- Your booking screen, which both Creatrip and Naver ask you to show.
- A way to pay: Naver bookings can be paid with Naver Pay after the service; see how much cash to bring to Korea.
Soonsiki lists a cut at 1 to 1.5 hours and a perm plus colour package at 4 to 6 hours; JUNO lists its cut at 60 minutes. Never book a perm on the morning you fly; our Incheon airport guide shows how long the airport run takes.
6. Damage-Care Add-ons Worth Paying For
Salons push hair treatment (클리닉, “clinic”) hard, and after a perm or bleach it is worth considering. JUNO Myeongdong lists 4-step repair care at 150,000 to 200,000 won and a 5-step keratin course at 250,000 won; Soonsiki lists treatment at 96,000 won via Creatrip. Because the stylist confirms the final price after seeing your hair, ask for the total before they start and type it into your phone.
7. Korean Nail Salons: Gel Nails in Seoul
Pro Beauty in Myeongdong (4.9 from 3,273 reviews on Creatrip, as of October 2026) lists nail art from 15,000 won for hands and 25,000 won for feet, about an hour per session. Designs, decorations, magnetic gel and gel removal are paid on site, and the same 3-day cancellation rule applies.

8. Paying and Tipping at a Seoul Hair Salon
Do not tip. The Korea Tourism Organization states that tipping is not required or expected in Korea, and the price on a salon menu is the price you pay. Korea’s tourist tax refund is designed for goods, so do not expect money back on the service. If nobody speaks English, the 1330 Korea Travel Hotline (+82-2-1330) can help.

Mistakes to Avoid
Most Seoul hair salon problems visitors report come down to these seven.
- Treating the menu price as final. Length, damage and rank are added at the consultation.
- Going to the wrong branch. JUNO and Soonsiki run several branches a few streets apart.
- Hiding bleached hair. A perm may be refused on the day.
- Cancelling late. Both Creatrip listings refuse refunds from 2 days before.
- Arriving late. Bookings auto-cancel after 10 to 15 minutes.
- Assuming you can pick your stylist. On Naver you can; on Soonsiki’s Creatrip listing you cannot.
- Cramming perm and colour into a half day. Allow 4 to 6 hours.
