Bottom line: the easiest way from Incheon Airport to Hongdae is the AREX all-stop train to Hongik Univ. Station: ₩4,650 from Terminal 1 (₩5,250 from Terminal 2) on a transport card, with no transfer. Do not board the nonstop AREX Express, because it never stops at Hongik Univ.

What this guide covers
Most guides on Incheon Airport to Hongdae copy one line: “take AREX”. That is right, but it hides the parts that go wrong: which AREX train, which terminal, what happens after the last train, and how far you still walk from the platform. The fares and times below come from AREX, Airport Limousine, Incheon Airport and Seoul city pages, last checked October 2026.
What Counts as Hongdae, and Which Station Do You Need?
Hongdae is the nightlife and street-culture district around Hongik University in Mapo-gu. Most visitors sleep within walking distance of Hongik Univ. Station, or nearby in Seogyo-dong, Hapjeong, Sangsu and Yeonnam-dong. For this trip, Hongik Univ. Station is the stop that matters. AREX lists it as a transfer to Line 2 and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line.
The general modes are covered in Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX all-stop and Express trains, airport buses at ₩17,000 to ₩18,000, and taxis. In short, only the all-stop train and bus 6002 reach Hongdae without a transfer. Everything below is specific to Incheon Airport to Hongdae trips. If your accommodation is not decided yet, read the love motel booking trap first.
1. AREX All-Stop Train: The Best Way From Incheon Airport to Hongdae
The AREX all-stop train is the simplest Incheon Airport to Hongdae route: it runs from Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 straight to Hongik Univ. Station. There is nothing to change and nothing to book. Tap a T-money card at the gate and get off at Hongik Univ.

Check the train before you board. AREX states that the Express offers nonstop service between Seoul Station and Incheon Airport. It does not stop at Hongik Univ., so it is the wrong train for Hongdae. If you buy an Express ticket by mistake, you ride to Seoul Station and double back. The Express fare is ₩13,000, so that is an expensive error on an Incheon Airport to Hongdae trip.
Fare, time and frequency
AREX’s own fare table gives an adult transport-card fare of ₩4,650 from Terminal 1 and ₩5,250 from Terminal 2 to Hongik Univ. A single-journey ticket adds ₩100, plus a ₩500 deposit refunded at the arrival station. Children aged 6 to 13 get a discounted fare, and infants under 6 ride free.

AREX publishes the journey time to Seoul Station only: 59 minutes from T1 and 66 minutes from T2, with some trains 2 to 6 minutes slower. Hongik Univ. is two stops before Seoul Station, so expect somewhat less. Third-party timetables show about 53 minutes from T1. Treat that as an estimate, not an AREX figure.
In the T1 weekday timetable, all-stop trains toward Seoul leave 4 to 12 minutes apart between 07:00 and 21:00, about 8 minutes on average. The first train is 05:14 from T1 and 05:08 from T2, on weekdays and holidays.
The last train is earlier than you think
The last all-stop departure from T1 is 23:56 (23:50 from T2), and many guides stop there. But AREX marks that train as ending at Digital Media City, which is before Hongik Univ. on the way to Seoul. The last train that actually reaches Hongik Univ. is 23:38 from T1 and 23:32 from T2, on both the weekday and holiday timetables. If you land after about 22:30, move to the late-night Incheon Airport to Hongdae section below.
2. The Last Kilometre: From Hongik Univ. Station to Your Hotel
Hongik Univ. is a big station. AREX describes it as a separate platform four underground stories deep, with 6 elevators, 20 escalators and 2 moving walks. Its facilities table also lists a wheelchair ticket gate and an exclusive elevator. That is better than it sounds, but you still walk. Travellers report that the lifts queue at busy times, so allow extra minutes if you carry two big cases.

Pick your exit before you go up. The station has numbered exits on a busy street, so search your hotel address in Naver Map while you ride. Exit 9, shown below, is the exit most visitors use for the main Hongdae street (widely reported, not an AREX statement). Hotels and hostels cluster between Hongik Univ. Station and Hapjeong, in Seogyo-dong. Hapjeong is one Line 2 stop from Hongik Univ.; for Sangsu and Yeonnam-dong, check the walking time in Naver Map.

- Luggage storage: Incheon Airport lists a manned T-Luggage storage point at Hongik University Station, on the 1st basement in the Airport Railroad connecting passage. Useful if your room is not ready.
- Short taxi hop: in Seoul, a metered ride up to 1.6 km is the ₩4,800 base fare (₩5,800 to ₩6,700 late at night). Book through Kakao T or Uber if you do not want to flag one.
- Look for the landmarks: bus 6002 stops by Olive Young, and our Olive Young guide explains the shopping stop you will pass anyway.
If you want a hotel close to where the AREX train arrives, L7 HONGDAE by LOTTE HOTELS is 237 m from Hongik Univ. Station.
3. Airport Bus 6002: Incheon Airport to Hongdae at Street Level
Airport Limousine bus 6002 is the only regular daytime route that serves Hongdae directly. On the way into the city it stops at Hapjeong Station, Seogyo-dong, then Hongik Univ., before continuing to Sinchon, Gwanghwamun and Dongdaemun. The adult fare is ₩17,000 (children aged 6 to 12 pay ₩12,000).

Stops. At the Hongik Univ. stop, the operator lists the drop-off as “roadside in front of Olive Young”, bus stop number 14801. Check the operator page for your own stop, because Hapjeong and Seogyo-dong are the better choice if your room is on that side of Hongdae. You get off at street level, so the stairs and long linkways of the station are skipped.
Times. From Terminal 1 (stop 6A-1 on the 1st floor) the weekday buses run from 05:34 to 23:29, about every 12 to 17 minutes after 07:00. From Terminal 2 (basement 1, platform 30) the first bus is 05:14 and the last 23:09. The weekend and holiday last buses are the same.

Journey time. The operator does not publish a daytime time to Hongdae. Incheon Airport lists about 45 minutes for the late-night N6002, which has little traffic. By day, travellers report about an hour and up to two hours on weekday evenings. If you have a deadline between 17:00 and 20:00, take the train.
Paying. Airport Limousine’s own pages give two instructions. The T1 stop page says tickets, cash and T-money are all accepted, but a notice says tickets must be bought at the ticket office from 5 March 2026. To be safe, buy at the ticket counter or ticket machine before you go to the stop, and check on the day. If you book a KKday Incheon Airport Limousine Bus Ticket (listed from ₩16,559 for an adult, rated 4.7, sold 6K+, free cancellation), you must still swap the voucher for a physical ticket; a QR voucher alone does not board, and the unmanned machines do not exchange KKday vouchers.
4. Taxi and Private Transfer: Incheon Airport to Hongdae by Car
A taxi is the right call for Incheon Airport to Hongdae when you are three or four people with many bags, or landing very late. Use the marked stands: 5C, 6C and 6D at Terminal 1 and 7C at Terminal 2. The airport warns that illegal call vans pose as taxis and overcharge. Skip anyone who approaches you in the arrivals hall.

Metered taxi: an estimate with the arithmetic
Seoul’s official standard taxi tariff is ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then ₩100 per 131 m, plus ₩100 per 30 seconds in slow traffic. Between 23:00 and 02:00 the base becomes ₩6,700 and the distance step ₩140. The estimate assumes 50 km, a third-party route distance, so check it. By day: (50 − 1.6) ÷ 0.131 = about 369 steps × ₩100 = ₩36,900 + ₩4,800 = about ₩41,700. At 23:00 to 02:00: 369 × ₩140 = ₩51,700 + ₩6,700 = about ₩58,400. Those figures exclude the time charge, expressway tolls and any app fee, which are charged at actual cost. Third-party sites report ₩50,000 to ₩70,000 in practice, so budget at the high end. It is a labelled estimate, not a quote. The airport says Seoul-bound taxis from its stands carry no boundary surcharge.
International Taxi flat fare (Zone B)
International Taxi is a Seoul-designated service with English, Chinese and Japanese speaking drivers. Mapo, which includes Hongdae, is in Zone B: ₩75,000 for a standard car and ₩110,000 for a deluxe or large one. Seoul’s Korean fare page says zone fares include tolls. You must reserve at least 24 hours ahead, and you pay by cash or card. It costs more than the meter, but you know the price before you land.

Private transfer: pre-booked and priced per car
If you want a driver waiting at arrivals, two booking sites list private airport transfers. GetYourGuide: Seoul: Private Transfer To/From Incheon Airport was listed from ₩127,000 per group of up to 4, rated 4.8 from 1,258 reviews, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before and up to 90 minutes of free waiting. KKday: Incheon Airport transfers lists private cars by drop-off point; on 15 October 2026 an economy 7-seater (about 3 passengers) was listed from ₩70,920 and a comfort 10-seater (about 6) from ₩91,394 to listed Seoul drop-offs such as Seoul Station. Prices are “from” figures and depend on car type and destination, so check Hongdae before you pay. For the Kakao T and Uber route instead, see how Uber works in Korea.

5. Incheon Airport to Hongdae Late at Night or at 05:00
Your Incheon Airport to Hongdae plan depends on the clock after landing, not the clock on the ticket. Allow about 1 to 2 hours after landing for immigration and bags before you reach any transport stand.
- Landing before about 22:00: take AREX. T1 last train reaching Hongik Univ.: 23:38. T2: 23:32.
- Landing between 22:30 and 23:30: the daytime bus 6002 runs until 23:29 from T1 and 23:09 from T2, but it is a tight call. Do not rely on the later AREX trains that end at Digital Media City.
- Landing after 23:30: take the N6002 night bus, ₩17,000. T2 departures: 23:40, 00:10, 00:40, 01:20, 03:40, 04:20. T1 departures: 00:00, 00:30, 01:00, 01:40, 04:00, 04:40. Buy a ticket at the unmanned machine at Incheon Airport first.
- Hongik Univ. is an alighting-only N6002 stop: the operator says the bus will not stop there if nobody is getting off, so tell the driver or press the bell.
- Gap to remember: no N6002 leaves T2 between 01:20 and 03:40, and T1 has none between 01:40 and 04:00. A taxi is your fallback.
- Landing around 05:00: the first AREX leaves T2 at 05:08 and T1 at 05:14. The first 6002 leaves T2 at 05:14 and T1 at 05:34. The T-Luggage storage at Hongik Univ. Station helps if your hotel will not take bags early.
- Late-night taxi: the airport lists 40% extra from 23:00 to 02:00 and 20% from 22:00 to 23:00 and 02:00 to 04:00.

Travellers report that the T1 to Hongdae N6002 departure often fills up even when it leaves T2 half-empty, so do not arrive at the stop at the last minute. This is a traveller report, not an operator statement.
6. Terminal 1 vs Terminal 2 for Incheon Airport to Hongdae
For Incheon Airport to Hongdae, Terminal 2 is the farther stop on both train and bus routes. The AREX fare is ₩600 higher (₩5,250 against ₩4,650), the Seoul Station time is 66 minutes against 59, and bus 6002 serves Terminal 2 first, then Terminal 1 about 20 minutes later. If you are at Terminal 2 and the bus has just gone, the AREX is usually quicker than waiting. The AREX between terminals costs ₩1,200.

Mistakes to Avoid
- Boarding the AREX Express because it looks faster. It skips Hongik Univ. and ends at Seoul Station.
- Counting on the 23:56 T1 departure for Incheon Airport to Hongdae. It ends at Digital Media City; the last train that reaches Hongdae is 23:38.
- Taking the bus at 17:00 to 20:00 with a hard deadline. Travellers report long delays then.
- Arriving at the N6002 stop at the last minute, or forgetting to ring for Hongik Univ., an alighting-only stop.
- Paying a street tout for a “taxi”. Use the marked stands 5C, 6C, 6D and 7C.
- Buying a KKday bus voucher and expecting a QR code to board. Exchange it for a paper ticket first.
- Comparing taxi quotes without asking whether tolls are included. Seoul’s Korean fare page says zone fares include them.
- Skipping your exit plan. Check your hotel address and exit before you go up from the platform.
