Coupang English Guide: Sign-Up, WOW and Payment (2026)

Bottom line: Coupang English means switching the Coupang app to English under My Coupang, but you still need an identity-verified account, which in practice means a Korean mobile number in your own name, before you can order, pay and use Rocket Delivery.

Coupang is the shopping app most people in Korea use for next-day delivery, and since May 2025 it has an English interface for foreign residents. What Is Coupang English, and Who Can Use It?

Coupang English is not a separate website. It is the English language setting inside the Coupang shopping app, which Coupang announced on 6 May 2025 as a beta for foreign customers living in Korea. According to Coupang, the English interface covers product search, product details, order information and the purchase page, plus the WOW membership benefits screen, Rocket Delivery, Rocket Overseas (Rocket Jikgu) and Gold Box.

The app also warns that translations may not always be accurate and that the Korean text prevails if the two differ. Seller product titles are usually written in Korean, so English search works for many popular items, but a Korean search term often finds more listings. That is why the product names in this guide come with the Korean words to type.

1. Coupang English: How to Switch the App Language

Turning on Coupang English takes under a minute and can be reversed at any time:

1. Install the Coupang app from the App Store or Google Play (developer: Coupang Corp.) and log in.
2. Tap My Coupang (the person icon at the bottom right).
3. Open the language setting and choose English, marked BETA.
4. Go back to the home screen. The menus now read Rocket Delivery, Rocket Fresh, Coupang Eats, Gold Box and so on.

Coupang’s announcement covers the app, so use the app for Coupang English and treat the website as Korean-only.

2. How to Sign Up for Coupang as a Foreigner

Coupang’s privacy notice lists the sign-up data as your name, phone number, email address and password, plus identity verification through your mobile carrier or a credit card. The carrier check records whether you are a Korean or other citizen, so a foreign resident can pass it, but only through a Korean carrier.

In practice that means three things:

• A Korean mobile number in your own name. Compare plans in our Korean phone plan guide; shop plans usually ask for your ARC.
• The same name spelling everywhere. Your ARC, your carrier record and your card should match letter for letter, including name order. A reversed name is a common reason the identity check fails; ask the carrier shop to correct the record and try again.
• Your ARC. If you do not have it yet, start with how to apply for your alien registration card. Until then, Daiso and convenience stores cover the basics.

3. Coupang English Payment: Cards, Coupay and WOW Billing

Coupang English only changes the language; payment still runs through Coupay, Coupang’s own wallet. Coupang’s order and payment FAQ explains what you can register:

• Up to 13 credit cards: ten Korean cards plus up to three foreign cards.
• Foreign cards: only Visa, Mastercard and JCB, and only in your own name, matching your Coupang member details. If identity verification fails, the card is not registered.
• If 3-D Secure fails at checkout: register the card in Coupay first (My Coupang, payment methods, accounts and cards, register).
• Other methods: bank transfer and Coupay Money also work for the WOW fee, which is charged every month on the same date.

4. Rocket Delivery, Rocket Fresh and WOW Membership

Rocket Delivery covers items stocked by Coupang itself, usually arriving the next day. Non-members get free delivery from ₩19,800; Korean press reported in March 2026 that the amount is counted after coupons, so check the cart. Rocket Fresh is the grocery service with early-morning delivery in covered areas. Rocket Overseas ships imported goods and has its own return window.

WOW membership costs ₩7,890 a month. Coupang’s FAQ lists these benefits:

• Free Rocket Delivery, even for one item.
• Rocket Fresh dawn delivery for orders of ₩15,000 or more, in delivery areas.
• Free returns for 30 days after arrival on Rocket Delivery items (unused items only; Rocket Fresh and Rocket Overseas are excluded).
• WOW-only prices, Coupang Play perks and free Coupang Eats delivery at eligible stores.

New members can usually start with a free trial, shown at sign-up. If you cancel before using any benefit that month, the fee is refunded within about seven days.

5. How to Write a Korean Address on Coupang

A Korean road name address runs from large to small: province or city, district (gu), then the street name and building number, then the building, floor or unit. Street names end in -daero, -ro or -gil. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety gives this English example: 109 Gangnam-daero 10-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, which is 서울특별시 강남구 강남대로10길 109 in Korean order.

Use these steps so the delivery arrives the first time:

• Search, do not type. Enter your street and number in the address search and pick the result. Look up your address on the official English address search or copy it from Naver Map.
• Add the detailed address. For apartments that is the building and unit, for example 101동 1203호. One-room and villa buildings have a detailed address (상세주소) on your lease.
• Add the entrance code. Put the building entrance password (공동현관 비밀번호) in the delivery note so the courier can reach your door.
• Use a short Korean delivery note. 문 앞에 놓아주세요 (leave it at my door), 경비실에 맡겨주세요 (leave it with the security office), 부재 시 연락 주세요 (call me if I am out).

6. Returns, Exchanges and Customer Support

Start a return in My Coupang, then the order list, then the item; the screen shows the refund after any return fee. Coupang’s FAQ gives these windows: Rocket Delivery items 30 days after delivery, Rocket Overseas and seller-shipped items 7 days, and Rocket Fresh no change-of-mind returns. Damaged, wrong or defective items can be returned within three months of receipt, or within 30 days of noticing the problem.

WOW members pay no return fee. Without WOW, a ₩5,000 fee is deducted if the remaining total is under ₩19,800, and ₩2,500 if it is ₩19,800 or more. For problems, call 1577-7011 or use the chat in the app.

7. What Expats Buy With Coupang English

Coupang is where most newcomers fill a home. These are everyday categories to search once your account works, with the Korean term in brackets. Listing prices below were seen in October 2026 and change daily.

• A rice cooker (밥솥 3인용) for one or two people, from about ₩29,000 to ₩69,000.
• An electric kettle (전기포트), about ₩9,900 to ₩25,000.
• A power strip (멀티탭) with a switch; Korea uses 220V, so see Korea plug type and voltage before buying imported devices. About ₩8,700 to ₩13,100.
• A clothes drying rack (빨래 건조대), about ₩14,000 to ₩21,500; most flats dry laundry indoors.
• A humidifier (가습기) for the dry heating season, about ₩19,900 to ₩35,800.
• A single bedding set (싱글 이불 세트) with duvet, pad and pillow cover, about ₩19,800 to ₩35,800.
• Instant rice (햇반) and ramyeon noodles (신라면) for the first nights, often with Rocket Fresh or Rocket Delivery.
• Laundry detergent (세탁세제) in a large refill pack.

Coupang Eats and delivery apps

Coupang Eats is a separate food and grocery delivery app. WOW members get free delivery at eligible stores on every order, according to Coupang’s FAQ, and the app has an English store listing. Mistakes to Avoid

• Signing up with a mismatched name. A name order that differs between ARC and carrier is the classic failure.
• Using someone else’s card. Coupay accepts only cards in your own name that match your member details.
• Expecting to return Rocket Fresh groceries. Change-of-mind returns are not accepted for them.
• Typing the address by hand. A missing unit number or entrance code is the usual cause of a failed delivery.
• Buying electronics without checking voltage. Korea runs on 220V; check the product page, especially for items from Rocket Overseas.
• Paying for WOW and not using it. Cancel before the billing date if you will not order.
• Trusting English screens for specs. The app says Korean prevails; check sizes on the Korean page.
