Bottom line: the best Korea itinerary 7 days is four nights in Seoul, two in Busan by KTX, and a last day to fly out. That gives you the palaces, the DMZ, markets and K-beauty in Seoul, then the coast in Busan, with one 2-hour 15 to 2-hour 30 minute train ride in between. Below is the day-by-day plan, plus 5-day and 10-day versions (details as of 15 October 2026).
Quick Korea Travel Guide
Getting in: File the free e-Arrival card and check the K-ETA rules (required again from 1 January 2027). Then see Incheon Airport to Seoul.
Stay in touch: Get a Korea eSIM from Airalo before you fly (from $4.00, as of October 2026).
Download first: Naver Map and Kakao T.
Where to book: the DMZ tour on GetYourGuide (from $45, 5.0 from about 8,400 reviews on the listing), the KORAIL PASS on KKday (if you add Gyeongju or another city) and a Busan coast day tour on GetYourGuide.
Getting around: A transit card covers the subway and buses; see T-money vs Climate Card (tourists use the Climate Card short-term pass) and the Seoul subway guide.

Most itineraries for Korea give you a list of places and ignore the closing days that wreck a plan. Gyeongbokgung is closed on Tuesdays and Changdeokgung on Mondays, so this plan is built around them, and every fare and hour comes from the operator, dated. If you travel in winter, add a ski day using the ski resorts near Seoul guide.
Quick answer
- Shape of a Korea itinerary 7 days: Days 1-4 Seoul, Days 5-6 Busan, Day 7 back to Seoul and home.
- Closed days: Gyeongbokgung is closed on Tuesdays; Changdeokgung on Mondays (Royal Palaces and Tombs Center).
- Palace entry: ₩3,000 for adults at both palaces; free if you wear a hanbok with top and bottom pieces.

- Korail Pass: the 2-day pass is ₩131,000 for adults (Korail, as of 15 October 2026), more than two single Seoul to Busan tickets.
- Book ahead: the DMZ tour (passport needed) and weekend KTX seats.
- 5 days: drop Busan. 10 days: add Gyeongju and Jeju.
How to Shape a Korea Itinerary 7 Days
Seven days is enough for Seoul properly and one other city. I put Seoul first because you arrive jet-lagged and Seoul needs the most days. Busan then gives the coast and a different pace. Use the table as a skeleton and the sections below for detail.
| Day | Base | Main stops | Book ahead? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Seoul | Airport to hotel, N Seoul Tower at night | Airport transfer if you land late |
| 2 | Seoul | Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon, Insadong, Gwangjang Market | Hanbok rental (optional) |
| 3 | Seoul | DMZ tour, Han River evening | DMZ tour (passport) |
| 4 | Seoul | Changdeokgung and Secret Garden, Seongsu, K-beauty | Secret Garden ticket |
| 5 | Busan | KTX from Seoul, Haeundae | KTX seats |
| 6 | Busan | Gamcheon Culture Village, Haedong Yonggungsa | Optional coast tour |
| 7 | Seoul or fly out | KTX back, tax refund, airport | KTX seats |
The key rules at a glance
| Item | Rule (operator, as of 15 October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Gyeongbokgung hours | Jan-Feb 09:00-17:00; Mar-May 09:00-18:00; Jun-Aug 09:00-18:30; Sep-Oct 09:00-18:00; Nov-Dec 09:00-17:00. Last entry one hour before closing. Closed Tuesdays. |
| Changdeokgung hours | Palace area 09:00-17:30 from November to January, 09:00-18:00 February to May and September to October. Closed Mondays. |
| Fees | ₩3,000 adult for each palace. Secret Garden ₩5,000 on top of palace admission, only at the time on your ticket. |
| Free entry | Under 19, over 65, last Wednesday of each month, and visitors in a hanbok with both upper and lower garments. |
| English tours | Gyeongbokgung 11:00, 13:30 and 15:30, Wednesday to Monday, free. |
| Korail Pass | 2-day ₩131,000, 3-day ₩186,000 (adult). Seat reservations open two months ahead. |

Swap rule: if Day 2 lands on a Tuesday, do Changdeokgung first and Gyeongbokgung on Day 4. If Day 4 is a Monday, do the same swap. Public-holiday exceptions shift the closing day by one, so check the palace page.
1. Days 1 to 4: Seoul in the Korea Itinerary 7 Days
Day 1: Arrive and see Seoul at night
Take the train or bus into town (all the options and fares), drop your bags and keep the first day short. N Seoul Tower at dusk gives the skyline; if you are staying near Myeongdong, read why Myeongdong is not all of Seoul.
For Seoul, N285 Hotel Insadong puts you near the palaces and L7 Hongdae by Lotte Hotels sits by Hongik Univ. Station.

Day 2: Palaces, hanok lanes and a market dinner
Start at Gyeongbokgung when it opens. Adult admission is ₩3,000, and the free English tour runs at 11:00, 13:30 and 15:30 from Wednesday to Monday. Hanbok wearers enter free, but the official rule requires both an upper and a lower garment, so a coat alone does not count (see hanbok rental). Walk on to Bukchon and Insadong, then eat at Gwangjang Market.

Day 3: The DMZ, then the Han River
A DMZ day trip takes about 6 to 7 hours and you must bring your passport; the KKday DMZ tour lists 4.9 from 1,683 reviews and the GetYourGuide DMZ tour starts at $45. Our DMZ tour guide explains the options. For the evening, picnic and watch the lights at the Han River parks with Korean fried chicken.
Day 4: Changdeokgung, Seongsu and K-beauty
Changdeokgung is closed on Mondays. Adult admission is ₩3,000, and the Secret Garden is a separate ₩5,000 ticket valid only at the entry time printed on it. In the afternoon head to Seongsu for shopping and cafes, then stock up at Olive Young (what to buy). If you want a treatment, a head spa and personal colour analysis are non-medical options. End the day at a jjimjilbang.

2. Days 5 to 7: Busan by KTX in the Korea Itinerary 7 Days
Seoul to Busan: KTX times, fares and the pass
The Korea Tourism Organization says KTX trains leave from Seoul, Yongsan and Cheongnyangni stations and run at up to 330 km/h. Seoul to Busan takes about 2 hours 15 minutes on the fastest trains and about 2 hours 30 minutes on typical ones, according to published schedules. The standard seat is widely reported at about ₩59,800 one way; confirm the current fare in the Korail Talk app before you pay.

On a plain Seoul to Busan return, single tickets (2 x ₩59,800 = ₩119,600, if that fare holds) cost less than the 2-day Korail Pass at ₩131,000, which Korail sells to foreign visitors only. The pass helps if you add Gyeongju or another city. Seats on weekends and holidays sell out weeks ahead; see KTX sold out: backup routes. Book single KTX tickets on Korail’s English site; if the pass makes sense for your route, it is sold as the KORAIL PASS on KKday.

Day 5: Arrive in Busan
Take an early KTX, check in, and spend the afternoon and evening at Haeundae. Compare the two cities in Busan vs Seoul if you are choosing where to add nights.
In Busan, Paradise Hotel Busan suits a beach-first stay at Haeundae and Lotte Hotel Busan is the Seomyeon option.

Day 6: Gamcheon and the seaside temple
Spend the morning at Gamcheon Culture Village and the afternoon at Haedong Yonggungsa, which GetYourGuide lists at 1 to 2 hours. A Busan coast day tour bundles the Sky Capsule, Yonggungsa and Gamcheon (4.8 from 732 reviews on the listing) if you would rather not plan buses.

Day 7: Back to Seoul and home
Take a morning KTX to Seoul, then claim your tax refund and use the duty-free limits before the airport run. Allow extra time for the airport transfer.
3. The 5-Day Version of the Korea Itinerary 7 Days
Drop Busan. Keep Days 1 to 4 and use Day 5 for the airport. If you want a second day trip, swap the DMZ for Nami Island and Petite France on one day. A 5-day plan suits a long weekend plus travel days, and it avoids the KTX risk.
4. The 10-Day Version: Add Gyeongju and Jeju
After Busan, take the short train to Gyeongju (the KTX stop is Singyeongju, outside the town centre) and read the Gyeongju guide for the sights. Then fly to Jeju for two days and read the Jeju rental car guide; flights from Gimpo are short, so check airline schedules. Finish with one more Seoul night.
5. What to Book and What It Costs
Plan cash for markets and small shops using how much cash to bring to Korea. A fully connected phone helps with trains and maps: see eSIM vs SIM vs pocket WiFi. Pack with the Korea packing list and time the trip with the best time to visit Korea.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Putting Gyeongbokgung on a Tuesday or Changdeokgung on a Monday.
- Arriving at a palace late in winter: last entry is 16:00 from November to February at Gyeongbokgung.
- Wearing only a hanbok coat and expecting free entry. Both upper and lower garments are required.
- Leaving the passport at the hotel on DMZ day.
- Waiting to buy weekend KTX seats; Korail Pass seat reservations open two months ahead.
- Trying to cram Seoul, Busan, Gyeongju and Jeju into seven days. Keep it to two bases.
- Planning Day 1 too full after a long flight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 7 days enough for Korea?
Yes for Seoul plus one more city. A Korea itinerary 7 days with four nights in Seoul and two in Busan covers the palaces, the DMZ, markets, K-beauty and the coast without rushing.
What is the best itinerary for 7 days in Korea?
Spend Days 1 to 4 in Seoul, take the KTX to Busan on Day 5, see Gamcheon and Haedong Yonggungsa on Day 6, and return to Seoul on Day 7. Swap palace days if one falls on a Monday or Tuesday.
How long is the KTX from Seoul to Busan?
About 2 hours 15 minutes on the fastest trains and about 2 hours 30 minutes on typical ones. The standard fare is widely reported at ₩59,800, so confirm it in the Korail Talk app.
Is the Korail Pass worth it for a week in Korea?
Not for one Seoul to Busan return. The 2-day pass is ₩131,000 for adults, while two single tickets at the reported ₩59,800 come to ₩119,600. It pays off if you add more long trips such as Gyeongju.
Which days are Korean palaces closed?
Gyeongbokgung is closed on Tuesdays and Changdeokgung on Mondays, according to the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center. If a holiday falls on the closing day, the palace opens and closes the next day instead.
Can I visit the DMZ on a 7-day Korea trip?
Yes, as a half-day or full-day tour from Seoul. Tours take about 6 to 7 hours and you must bring your passport.
How do I change a 7-day Korea itinerary to 5 days?
Skip Busan and keep Days 1 to 4 in Seoul, using Day 5 to leave. Replace the DMZ with Nami Island if you prefer a lighter day.
How much does a 7-day Korea itinerary cost?
Palace tickets are ₩3,000 each, the Secret Garden is ₩5,000, and a KTX return is roughly ₩119,600. Lodging and food vary, so budget with the cash guide.
Need More Time, or a Winter Detour?
Add days for Busan and Gyeongju, or swap one Seoul day for a ski day in winter (ski resorts near Seoul). For nights out, see Seoul nightlife; for food, start with Korean BBQ.
